It’s Easier Than You’ve Been Told
Most people think writing code is like being an engineer building a bridge. It’s nothing like that. Writing code is a lot more like doing a jigsaw puzzle. Pretty much all the code you need is already written and being used in a website somewhere. A lot of it is in easily searchable, public code libraries. You just go get it.
Is there more to Youth Learning Code than coding?
Yes, quite a bit more. Youth Learning Code includes modules on
- professional development (to keep skills current)
- personal development (to keep it all organized)
- adventurous journeys (stepping outside your comfort zone)
What’s involved?
If you’re in school or working, Youth Learning Code is a part-time program. If you’re out of school with no job we have a much more aggressive program you can tackle. The key is that you get to make progress at your own speed.
You can also choose a specialty if you want. Some folks will branch off along the way to focus on front end, back end, security, or some other aspect of coding and that’s okay. What you’re really committing to is learning; discovering your full potential.
Where does Youth Learning Code happen?

No Math or Science Required
People see what websites and applications do and naturally think writing code must be really hard. The truth is that writing code is fairly easy to do because most of what you need is already written. The code is on websites, in applications, and there are even digital code libraries you can copy from. To be honest, writing code is a lot like doing a jigsaw puzzle.
Do Projects NOT Portfolios
A lot of programs have you build a portfolio, then they do a career fair. Youth Learning Code is connected to local businesses and several corporate players. Once you show you’re able to do the work, you’re onto live projects.
Get The Job You Want
Youth Learning Code is connected to local businesses throughout Toronto and big employers like Microsoft, Telus, and Coke. The purpose is to get you a wide variety of experience building websites and writing code.
You get the experience you need so you can choose the work you want. Maybe you want to go freelance, work for a small agency, or go with a corporate gig. The key is you are picking the work you want to do. Youth Learning Code gives you the freedom to choose your own path.
